temperature issues 200 1993

I had the same temperature problem with my 85 last week. The gauge would stop at about 7 o'clock and then drop back toward the cold indicator. I pulled the thermostat, and placed it in a pan of water on the stove. The thermostat began to open, and then locked in position, and would neither open further or close at all. I placed the thermostat in cool water, and it finally closed (maybe 30 minutes later. I replaced it with a new one, and now I'm back to 8:30 to 9 o'clock again, and the heat output is back where it should be. Check yours in a pan of water. One other thing.....you did install it in the right direction with the piddle valve facing up did you not?
