I know you have a couple threads going on this, so maybe you've already tried talking this over with your daughter.
1) if the button makes the LED come on, this tells you there is ignition switch power to the OBD box, and the button works. Nothing more. You can get that much with the probe wire not put in any socket.
2) if the 111 or any other code returns from the #2 slot, you know the fuse #6, that powers both fuel and spark computers, is there.
The problem of not getting any codes back from the ignition computer is completely new in my experience. Those ICUs are so rarely defective. I would have your daughter double check the plug is going into the right spot, opposite the #2 spot on the OBD socket.
If your daughter is up to putting paper clips into relay sockets, maybe you can have her arrange a jumper between fuse 4 and 6. This is such a useful test of the fuel delivery system, a jumper and test light are the only tools I carry in our Volvo 240s in addition to the cell phone with towing company in speed dial.
