Thanks very much for the answer!
I tried the first option (did I get it right? see the picture
below), but with my jack there doesn't seem to be enough space
to fit the stand. I don't know if getting a jack with a
smaller footprint would help in my case (these things tend
to be bulky no matter what). Besides building a cross bar
as you suggest I don't see any safe way to raise both rear
wheels... I only have one Volvo, this problem does not exist
on my other car (Honda Accord).
Any input would be appreciated.
