Explanation 120-130

Pat;

First of all: Welcome to the forum and vintage Volvo ownership!

If you have found the SwEm site helpful...great...that's the point...and thanks for the nice comments! ...having learned by doing, and in many cases figured out the root cause of problems (I guess my personality requires me to understand the exact nature of things...that's why for instance, I saw apart brake light switches, or drill out fuseblock rivets...) and come up with solutions, I try to put the info out there to benefit other owners who might not want to, or be in a position to dig as deep.

The info and what I believe to be a (more?) reasonable and cost effective work-around solution on the IGN switch issue is also on the site, so when you posted about having bought a batch of keys in your first posting on the issue before having asked for advice, that told me you had already made a decision to accept the breaking keys problem (having read my explanation on the subject or maybe not), and this was your work-around solution. Since you now have all of these keys (I wonder how much that cost, compared to an upgrade kit), that is why I stated I couldn't give you advice...you had apparently made a decision...

I something breaks in normal service, there exists a weakness either in design or materials or both...in the case of the IGN keys, this is caused by the key being the weak link when pitted against the gorilla return spring of the mechanical part of the IGN switch. Given my personality (see above) it would just bother me to continuously break keys and not come up with a less violent solution which prevented this...I suppose you can always STILL install an pushbutton upgrade, but then you'd be unnecessarilly be sitting on a pile of keys, and that's too bad, but its not the end of the world either...I think we could still have a beer together...

Cheers
