from the three amazons I've been under, I'm fairly sure that there should be NO rubber fuel line anywhere rearward of the engine. I'd suspect that the line may have rotted out some time ago. and it was repaired with the bit of hose.

You might look into a double-ended brass compression fitting and get that rubber out of there for good.

I was checking into new hardline when I was doing a D-jet conversion to my wagon. 5/16" steel line can be bought fairly cheaply at McMaster-Carr. However, given it is late December, and nobody wants cold gasoline dripping on them, that rubber should hold up for several more seasons.
