replacing battery caused no start? help please (: 700 1990

Can anyone think of a reason of why replacing the battery (1990 780) could cause a no start situation? I drove back from the store, put the new battery in (without testing it at that time). Now, a couple of hours later, the engine cranks at a healthy clip, lights etc. work, but no start. I'm about to go through some of the checks in the FAQ, but not having done any of them before and it being -5F outside, I was hoping someone would have some ideas about what replacing the battery might break.
