89 245 idiot battery light OR IDIOT OPERATOR? 200

Sounds normal to me... though I'm less familiar with the newer charging systems, I could be wrong.

The charge warning light (Yea.. it's a picture of a battery, but it's indicating an improper charge situation, either under charging, *or* over charging) measures a difference in charge balance...

If your alternator isn't charging, that light is saying 'hey idiot, there's more juice flowing out of your battery than is flowing in'

When you shut the car off, for that split second that the motor comes to a rest, that light is saying 'hey idiot, there's more juice flowing into the battery than is leaving'.. because it's still charging while that motor is spinning down to a stop, the idiot light is reading an 'overcharge' condition, which is what it should do.

As long as your volt meter is accurate and you're reading proper voltage (which you are), you're fine.

Drive safely!
