I'm looking for some guidance and/or suggestions as I tear into my '70 1800E's dashboard...Here's what I'm looking at; Neither the Oil nor Coolant Temp gauges indicate. Even after a drive around town for about 30-45 minutes to heat up the engine. I've tested both senders at the engine, and the wiring from the sender to the gauges. So I think the senders (which are both new) and the connections to the gauges are good. I've also tested resistance between each gauge posts/leads at the rear of the gauge and they both give approx. 58-60 ohms (per the Volvo Repair Manual). So now I'm thinking either the voltage stabilizer (which is attached to the back of the Oil Temp gauge) is not functioning or there is something else I'm missing.
I have tried one test of the VStabilizer; On my workbench I wired a 12v source to VS and back to neg battery lead. I monitored voltage output of VS for about 3-4 minutes and it remained at ~12v without change (e.g.it didn't drop to 0v after heating up). While not "electrically gifted or even very knowledgeable" I'm leaning toward a conclusion that the VS isn't working and if I replace it I should get both gauges working properly (?)
Anyone have similar problem or solution?
Lastly, Does anyone know where I can get the gaskets that go in front of and behind the glass for these gauges?
Thanks for any assistance
