Here's a mind bender. My 122's got about 50K miles on a rebuilt engine. Never burnt a drop of oil yet. But over the weekend I went driving on the coast and noticed when driving down a very steep hill in fairly low gear to help slow the car down, that there was smoke pouring out the tailpipe. But as soon as the car got on level ground, the smoking stopped. Is it possible that going down a steep enough hill would "raise" the level of the oil in the engine to the point where it would burn off? If this theory sounds plausible, is this phenomenon unique to old Volvos, or is it more widespread?
