heater fan switch 200 1990

hi all,

when i got my car the fan wasn't blowing at 1 and 2, but fine on 3 and 4

my mechanics patched another 'resistor' bypassing the original one so they didn't have to pull everything to get to the motor.

well it worked fine for a couple of weeks and today position 1 failed (with a burning electric stuff smell!) and without really knowing what they did and where, i am wondering if this is a sign of the blower itself going bad (by trying to pull too much power) or just their patch not really working.

if it is the blower i'm going to have to try it myself as i do NOT have the money to pay them right now :(

thanks
