What windshield adhesive to use? 700 1987

I will be replacing the windshield in my 87 745, and I am wondering what is the correct adhesive to use. My understanding is that butyl is the original type, but the information in the FAQ section (which seems to be about a 240 installation) says to use urethane. I have also heard NOT to use urethane, as it is next to impossible to remove, should it be necessary to do so at some point in the future. Is it OK to use butyl tape? Any clarification would be much appreciated, particularly from someone with first-hand experience. Also, tips on procedure, specifically concerning preparation of the surfaces and the application of the adhesive.

Thanks in advance.
