Intermittent electrical problem 200 1986

Hi guys,
I've got this problem that keeps popping up on my 1986 240 GL.
Every once in awhile the car simply won't start. It will try to crank over but it seems like there is not enough charge in the battery to make it start.
What's really stange about this is that the car will start for weeks on end with no problem.
For instance last week my daughter drove the car into town and stopped and started it probably 10 different times. Then she drove it back home....went into the house for about 5 minutes and when she went back out, it wouldn't start although it would barely try to turn over.
She did say that right before she pulled into the driveway her radio shut itself off for about a second and then came right back on. That makes me think there is a short but I've tried and my mechanic has tried to find one to no avail.
So far we have verified the exciter wire is working to the alternator and the alternator itself is putting out a really good charge.
We have checked all connection in the electrical circuit and can't find any loose connections or shorts.
We have installed a known good battery but even with a brand new battery, we had the same problem once again.
I've replaced the engine wiring harness several months ago.
My mechanic checked the resistance on the starter and said it is just fine.
I'm just totally at a loss here.
Could this possibly be a problem in the ignition switch?
Any other suggestions?
I'm about at the end of my rope and my mechanic is pretty much feeling the same way.
The good news is that after spending two days on this problem and replacing the blower motor he only charged me a bit over $300.00 and that included a new battery and the blower motor. But, he and I both really want to get this electrical problem solved. We just can't seem to figure this out, so I'm turning to the experts.
If anyone has any ideas at all, I would really like to hear them.

Thanks,
Dave
