1984 245: turns over and starts, then dies after 10 sec. Fuel pump relay? 200

You'll have to forgive me for my lack of info, this is a car i haven't seen but am keen on buying, it's just about 50 miles away and before i head down there I want to know what i'm getting into (and yeah the car would be coming to me for a song so i think my effort's worth it).

Guy says it's been a long time since it was driven, and at first wouldn't start (it's LOW on miles, too, for an '84: 125K i believe). he charged the battery and now it will only start for a moment, then dies. he thinks if it isn't the not-yet-strong-enough battery then it's the fuel pump relay, and is gonna check the connections in the fuse box first to be sure.

I seriously don't know much about cars but I'm competent and if he'll let me (before actually BUYING the car) i'd like to do what i can to get it fixed. I can solder pc board and wires if i think it'd be worth it, but what else should I look for? and what exactly do I do when resoldering the FPR? just resolder every connection in the harness or what? where is the 240 FAQ, I can't find it.

THANKS A LOT!!!
