How and/or Can a starter drain a battery? 200

I've checked the connections, the battery, the alternator and nothing appears to be draining the battery, but yesterday I went to start the car and it was dead, again! Battery only had 12.28V. Is it possible the starter is doing it? Bringing the battery into the apartment every couple days to charge is getting pretty old, not too mention it's -24C this morning. I'm at the point where it might be going to the shop...yikes.

Thanks
Matt
