88 740 wagon: Ignition lights stay on with key turn 700 1988

It looks like a I may have a bad ignition switch, the whole instrument light cluster lights up like a Christmas tree. All red. Intermittent problem, but getting worse. If I juggle the key too far left, trying to get the lights out, the power goes off to the whole works.

Oh oh. Hard to replace the switch? Is this the likely culprit?

I think that the light being all on, it would be disabling the charging system, but am not sure of this. A crucial point if I am going to work...
