Mystery electrical problem...Help please? 700 1990

Battery connections have now been replaced.

The development is that when the engine is not running, the battery symbol lights up very dimly. When the engine is running the battery symbol is brighter.

Voltage is about 11.9 at high idle, 11,7 with headlights on.

My guess is that the voltage regulator is weak, perhaps the brushes are worn out and no longer making consistent contact. I think replacing the regulator/brush assembly is the next job.

Any opinions?

thanks, Steve
