Hi Steve,

Whats the battery voltage with the car off? should be abt 12.6VDC

with the car running you should see about 14.1 VDC (Which is healthy charging voltage)

See if your alternator belt is really loose.
Check to see that you have at least 12.6 VDC on the blue wire to the alternator.

Maybe you're right and the brushes are kaput... they come out easily with two screws. Go to any alternator shop and get new brushes and solder them in or
see if they'll sell you a new assembly . My local shop charged me $10 for
the brush assy and gave me the brushes for free. So I have a spare in my jnk now. It's simple to solder in new brushes.
