Loose Tailshaft with Noise 200 1988

Hello. I have an '88 240 sedan with AW70 trans I just bought(100,000 m.). It was in a front-end accident right before I got it (medium damage to right fender and radiator cross brace. Frame ok, motor and trans mounts ok) When you drive it there is a scraping noise from the transmission area that gets faster as the car goes faster. I checked the tailshaft and it moves up and down 1/8" when the ds is pushed up and down. I'm assuming this is a result of the accident. The previous owner says it wasn't there before the accident. Could it be as simple as a bad bushing? Or what? There is no fluid leaking from the trans. Thanks, jdl.
