Shims For Adjusting Rear Wheel Bearings 120-130

I have a 69 1800. The Hyanes manual and the Volvo Workshop manual says all the shims should go on the Left side. All of mine are on the right side. I don't believe this car has ever been disassembled. I noticed that 120 owners mention that all the shims go on the Right side. What gives? Does it matter what side all the shims go on? or is the important thing that they All go on One side or the other not divided between the two sides? Thanks Rich B
