Brown stuff in engine oil

If you have coolant in the oil it will all turn creamy tan after running. You would also possibly notice the level going UP. Absent this, it is more likely that you do not drive long enough to consistently get the engine to operating temp and the cool/cold weather is allowing some normal condensation to collect at the dipstick tube and be picked up as you withdraw the stick. An important question is whether the liquid above the goo looks clear (as in not creamy).

If your temp gauge is below dead-centre, replace the thermostat with a proper 87 or 92 degree part. If it's already running hot enough, then be aware but not yet concerned about it.
