Not a whole lot to it, and I am a pretty basic kind of guy.
Take the negative terminal off the battery, and disconnect the accelerator and kickdown cable (if you have an auto tranny). Remove the large air hose and the two top vacuum lines. Unplug the Throttle Position Switch and remove the three bolts that hold the TB to the intake manifold and pull it off the car. Take the Switch off and set it aside. You will not believe the oily gunk that will come out that later. Then put on the goggles and gloves and get after it with your favorite cleaning solution. I have used the STP stuff with excellent results. But have read from everything from parts cleaner to Seafoam.
Clean and lube up the switch assembly, and install it with a new gasket, and do the same to the idle adjust assembly on the other side. Before putting the assembly back on the car, clean all the surfaces, remove any old gasket material and install the new gasket.
As Hayes says, installation is the opposite of removal. Clean the flametrap, check all the hoses for vacuum leaks or cracks, and check the bottom side of the large hose for splits or holes.
I also take a paper clip and use that or a small wire to clean out the small hose where the flametrap connects to the top of the intake manifold.
And thats all there is too it. Unless you want to get a can of Seafoam and do the infamous manifold and valve cleaning. Sort of fun, just did it to two cars on the same day and have to say made one of them run a lot better.
Good Luck and Regards,
Paul
