trailer wiring adapter 960/850 1997

You're right, I just noticed that wiring adapter fitment selector has the wrong sex of 9-pole connector based on what you said. Obviously something's not an industry standard here.

I'm not surprised Docksteader told you to get a Volvo harness, but I'm a bit curious why Len, Brian or whoever at Schram would tell you it was necessary and didn't indicate you could grab all the necessary wire connections yourself. Is there something magical I don't know about the Volvo harness or your 960 wiring so you can't just use crimp blocks to splice into wiring?

If you're only going to occasionally rent a trailer then I'd consider just getting one of those cheapy 4-pin Euro/NA converters I talked about (Cdn Tire and WallyWorld have them, although not always in stock). Rather than running a wire up to the brake pedal switch, the Volvo harness you've installed may already do that (or something equivalent) so you could grab the brake signal by splicing into the brake wire going to the 9-pin connector. If the bulb out light does go on when you touch the brakes while the trailer is connected then maybe just learn to live with it. You'd also be able do all the other necessary splices at that point in the Volvo harness. That would give you both a 9-pin and a 4-pin connection.

Anyway, have fun.
