any ideas why 200

monday night after starting my 92 wagon in logan airport garage i did in this sequence:

started the car

turned on the headlights

had to find my parking ticket so i fiddled with the overhead light...as i moved the 3 way switch to get it lighted i noticed when the switch was placed in the MIDDLE position the TACH instantly went dead

in the other 2 positions the tach came back on

info: the tach is the large tach in place of the large clock. it is wired right with the small clock and factory harness. all items removed from an 88 sedan with a factory sunroof?.

..................

now IF i start the car and DO NOT turn on the headlights the tach remains ON no matter what position the overhead switch is in.

.................

this is a curiosity to me as it is easy enough to avoid this situation so i am asking anyone with subtle electrical circuit knowledge to step in here.
