Under body rattling 200 1987

My 24o wagon has developed a rattle in the undercarriage. it comes and goes and i believe it could be caused by the horrible constuction to repave the street outside my home. It seems to be coming from where the car shifts into gear (example-i took a look underneath briefly while my husband put it in reverse) the cover it looks like of the drive shaft? it rotated a bit when put in gear and seems to be the source of the rattle. excusing my obv lack of correct terminology can anyone give a guess and the fix? Praying its nothing too costly-as am low in the car repair fundage.

thanks in advance.
