Camshaft Question 444-544

When I had the block at the machine shop I had them remove the old cam as I was going to put in a new IPD VV-71. Unfortunately, now I have no idea how to install the new one. I pre-lubed all the bearings and slid it in the block. I'm thinkling there must be some sort of seals or gaskets or something that are part of the installation but I can't find any material on installing the camshaft. The motor manual is pretty vague. All I can find is a stainless steel looking oblong piece of flat steel that goes over the end of the shaft and bolts to the block. Is that all that holds it in? I can feel some sort of spring tension at the end of the shaft, is that normal?
