Tips for Mess-Free Filter Changes: 200

Anybody try this? My folded paper towel under the filter method cannot catch all the spillage.

From the 700/900FAQ "[Ivan] Using a nail or similar sharp object, punch a hole in the filter while it is still on the car. On vertically mounted ones, straight through the middle, on horizontally mounted ones, just bellow the top (remember there is oil inside). With drain plug and oil filler cap already off there is enough pull to completely drain the filter free of oil. It works like a charm."

I have a nail set with a broken tip ready for the grinder although it may need something shorter to make room for a hammer.

Tom
