Tranny Slipping on 89 740GL

The automatic transmission has started to slip on our 1989 740GL. It has 180k on it, so it might just be normal wear and tear. I noticed the slipping is much more prominent when it is cold out. We are very careful to keep our fluid levels within the correct ranges, so I can at least rule that out. Is there anything else that could be causing this, or is it most likely time for a new transmission? If that is the case, any recommendations on rebuilt versus new?
