I requested a quote from a guy off craigslist who claims to be a mobile mechanic in my area..i explained that im pretty sure its not the actual alternator because i already switched it out a few months back and the problem with the dashboard lighting up is back, i beleive its wiring or brushes and bearings. I was under the impression it is possible to replace the brushes without removing the alt, he says that is not the case. here is the email he just sent me...let me know what you think
they dont sell alternator brushes but if they did it would cost you more to have it pulled, then i would have to rebuild it thenn put it back thats to much work you could save yourself money and time a new alternator only cost the price below now what i would charge for the labor of the alternator to swap it is $150.00 because the new alternator doesnt come with pulley i would have to use the old pulley and put it on the new one thats for the alternator now if you just want me to change the wires that are running to it would be $60.00 but if you do the alternator and the wires i wont charge you for the wires ill do it on the house and just charge you the labor for the ALT. since im gonna be in there
P.S. Just in case you dont know the total price is $155.96 but if you take the old alternator back you get $57.00 back so it would only really be $98.96
