1998 240 AMM unusual failure mode 200 1988

Hi,
I have an '88 240 that won't start. Well, the engine will start, but will only run for a fraction of a second. And, I mean a very small fraction of a second. While diagnosing the problem I accidentally detached the flexible hose from the AMM -- the hose that connects the AMM to the throttle body. With this hose disconnected, the car will start and idle properly. If I re-attach the hose while the car is idling the car immediately stalls.

It looks like a rebuilt AMM, and the car has run in the past with this AMM installed.

Has anybody else seen this failure mode in this AMM?
