Yet another frigging problem 700 1991

Well, she is now three weeks since the head replacement and that all seems to be well. However today a new problem seems to have developed:

Has been running very nicely for at three weeks, absolutely no problems at all.

Was stuck for some road work, and turned the engine off for the approx. 5 min. wait. On restarting, the fuel pump seemed to be a bit loud, enough so that it caught my attention. But the car had started right up. On acceleration, however, she stumbled a bit. Since there was backed up traffic I could not accelerate hard, but she clearly did not like being given much gas. There were also some intermittant misfires, hesitation, or cut-outs as she was driving along. After a while, 3 to 5 minutes, all was better. Nice and smooth, and could easily handle my stomping on the gas.

Stopped to pick up eggs on the way home, and on restart at the grocery, the main fuel pump did not make the same noise it always does. It was very different. But, she started right up. Parking lot type acceleration was fine, but when I pulled out on the road and gave it the usual amount of acceleration, she died. Started right back up, though. I had to be careful with the acceleration for a while, but, as before, after 3 to 5 minutes, all was fine.

Any ideas?

Further info: New radio supression relay and fuel injection relay within the last 6 months. New main fuel pump about two and a half years ago, genuine Bosch, with a new filter. That pump has always been noisey, though. New lift pump and little sock filter within the last two years or so, trying to quiet the main pump.

Obvioulsy it could be a defective Bosch pump, one that was bad from the beginning, but what are the chances? Any other possibilities?
