Thinking about getting a 68' 145S, what should I be thinking about 140-160 1968

This car looks like a beauty. I'd snatch it up in a minute as long as the price isn't outrageous. The transmission should not be noisy in fourth--however--my first experience with a Volvo I owned regarding a transmission that seemed to become loud and in need of overhaul led me to consult a good friend who had been Volvo trained in Denmark in the late 60's. He went straight to the real problem--a small crack in the shift boot at the forward edge-put in fourth it opened just enough to suck in road noise--specifically transmission noise. One new boot later my transmission was "fixed". If the tranny really is noisy, now would be the perfect time to convert to an M41--it'll make the car. The carbs/tune-up/running glitches are all fixable. 140's are more prone to the panhard rod and front end bushings wearing than the 240--can make for a very squirrelly ride. But again-all fixable. -- Dave
