How to remove door map pockets? 700

Hey Dean,

You do need to remove the door panels to get the pockets off. They are attached to the backside of the door panel with screws. It sounds annoying, but these are actually some of the easier door panels to remove.

If you want to remove the door panels:

Remove the the lock knob by unscrewing it, then give the small plastic screw at the bottom of the door pull a quarter turn. It should just pop out. Now pull up on the bezel that surrounds the window buttons and door handle carefully... (this is the trickiest part). Start at the back, since it has a tabs in the front. It helps if you push against bottom of the carpeted panel next to the bezel, it allows the piece to lift out much easier. The bezel should come out with the window/mirror switches attached. Now you can just remove the bezel and leave the switches connected. Its not necessary to disconnect them to remove the door panel. Remove the speaker grill by sliding it forward. If you have aftermarket speakers that are screwed to the metal part of the door, you'll need to remove them. Next, remove the small red lens on the back edge of the door with a small flat bladed screwdriver. It just snaps in. You may want to pull the bulb out of the holder. Now, there are three fasteners at the bottom. These snap in. With the small flat bladed screwdriver, pry them out gently from their center. They snap in upward, so just pry down gently. Lift upward gently on the door panel, and it should come free. Guide the window switch through the opening on the panel, and unplug the wire that goes to the courtesy lamp. The socket for the lamp is fixed to the door. Pry the tabs on the connector with a small flat blade screwdriver. Unplug the speaker if its still attached to the door. The panel should be free of the car.

Reassembly is the pretty much the reverse. The bezel around the window switches is fragile, so push against the carpeted part of the panel next to it to allow it to move into place without straining it too much.

It sounds complicated, but takes less than 10 minutes.

You may want to check the FAQ and search the forum, in case I left anything out.
