Is there room for the shifter??? 120-130

It seems as though the major complaint to this conversion is the gas pedal location and the space for the right foot.
As I understand it, the tunnel is not a structural component of the frame meaning it could be modified on the drivers side. Either working with an air hammer to massage the sheet metal away or just cut out a chunk and weld in a concave portion. Has anyone tried this approach?
