testing the fuel level sendor when out of the tank 700

so I got the assembly out to replace the pre pump but before I put it all back in the tank, I want to check the sendor. The gas gauge was not working so I want to eliminate this part. How would I test it for resistance while flipping the assembly up and down. I just tried it and the Ohm meter registers but what levels should I be expecting? I can hear the ball sliding inside.
