I wonder if you could use the plugs that was supplied with the master cylinder they are plastic?

Don't know if you could or not. The downside of trying it might be an engine compartment hosed down with DOT-4. If the plastic plug didn't pop out, it may leak around the threads - not sure if the ends of those are designed to seal to the flare mating surface where the brake lines seal.

Take your time, if you have it. You'll get it fixed.
