89 240 Trunk lock stays locked at times 200

On my 89 240 Volvo the trunk lock gets stuck at times. When I lock the car doors with the ignition key and return to unlock the doors the trunk lock remains locked. After several tries of locking/unlocking the doors with the key the trunk lock will sometimes unlock. I do not have a separate key for the trunk lock. It's getting to the point I hate to lock my doors for fear I won't be able to get into the trunk. Anyone have an idea as to what the cause might be? Thanks for your help. Randy
