wheel offset for 145 140-160

Since the stock rims are 5½ and are good and sturdy, I wonder if it is worthwhile to do that for ½" more....
I'm not sure about the offset but on my 164, which has the same rear end geometry, with 195/75-15 tires,
it was close on the outboard side and seemed to have plenty of space on the inboard side.
So it looks to me like if you are going to add width, the relationship between the front of the rim and the center
should be the same and the width should be added on the back or inboard side.
