Shy gauges 200 1985

Hi, I couldn't find anything with my exact issue, so I thought I'd toss this out there.

My 1985 245 has an issue with both the gas and temp gauges. When they work, they both work together, and consequently, don't work at the same time. It appears that during longer trips or more driving around town, the gauges will perk up, but it generally takes a little while. The only conclusions that I can come up with are a, the temp board behind the dash, or 2, there's some wiring stuff, as this is still the era of the decomposing wiring insulation. Any thoughts?
