'81 245GLT models: esoteric questions

First, we have a 1981 245GLT wagon. 297K on clock; upgraded to AW70 trans about 6 years ago, (expensive). Love the car but wish it was an M46, plus it got bad C-pilar rust and silver color is dying, (clear coat peeling/paint fading badly)

I'd like to find some other fans of this model car. We like the fact it is the turbo wagon with no turbo. Questions:

1. How many years did they make the GLT 245? I seem to think just a year or two.

2. How many colors did they come in? (read: how good are my chances of finding a decent one NOT in silver?)

3. Were they all, "Anniversary Editions????" Ours had the anniversary badge in the glove box and I never could find out where that badge was originally installed, so I finally put it on one of the square dash-gauge pop-out panels.

I just found one advertised, but it's silver again and has the 3-speed BW trans. Price $1,200, with 235K on clock and I think that price is high. I'd love to have another of these cars without the rust/paint problems to restore, but I would sure like something other than silver and with the M46. If I could go back in time and buy ANY 240 in new condition I would buy an '81 GLT, non-silver with an M46. Anything that I find for sale now will need all the suspension bushings, probably fan motor, etc., etc.

Commentaries would be very much appreciated.

Dennis
