Dennis,

Teaching is a labor of love, not for love of money. But it *is* fun and very rewarding -- more so than my 30 years of eng'g.

The reason for teaching is amusing..... after retiring from eng'g in '99, I decided to go to school for a whimsical program, professional writing (as it turned out, a GREAT choice for semi-retirement).

After three weeks on campus, the department chair said to me, "Hey, you're an engineer. How would you like to teach tech writing to our engineering students? Our English faculty cannot talk to those kids."

So, I did and I've never looked back. I earned the degree in '03 and ended up teaching tech writing, business communication, freshman English, and desktop publishing. The eng'g students relate to me (and I to them) so they walk away either really angry or very happy. On the one hand, they can't BS me. One the other hand, we can talk about technical topics and I resonate with them.

I also teach SolidWorks to eng'g students.
