Transmission woes 900 1994

I have a '94 940 with an AW71L transmission and ~220,000 miles on it; The car will not shift past the 3rd gear, I have changed the screen and flushed the transmission twice, still no go. I know this issue comes up quite often, I've read what seems like hundreds of posts but none of them quite match the problem I'm having. The car runs fine after sitting overnight, if I can get on the freeway shortly after starting it, everything is fine, until I have to hit the brakes, that is. When braking, I can sometimes feel a small brief jerk and something similar to a weight shifting towards the front of the car. Once that happens, it will not shift into 4th gear no matter what. I'm planning on pulling out the OD solenoid and giving it a good cleaning tomorrow, but I am running out of options quick. Please, anybody have any suggestions?
