Power steering pump problems on commute 700 1987

Hi folks,

This morning when I drove into work, the PS started making a lot of noise (even some noise on straight stretches), and the pump gave no assist. I had a flashback to when I was driving the same stretch of road and had my crank pulley fail. This is different, though, since the HB is new and my PS has been a little noisy anyway. It leaks a teaspoon every few days.

Checked the fluid, and it seemed OK... a little low, so I topped off with some Mobil 1 ATF I had in the trunk.

A fellow Brickboarder has a used pump heading to me by USPS, but I still have a trip home tonight and my commute tomorrow... not to mention that the new pump is still in postal limbo.

What's the best course of action here? My worst-case scenario is the pump seizing and throwing the belt that it shares with the water pump. I need to make it home this evening.

Thanks!

Ari
