Power steering pump problems on commute 700 1987

I got home with no real problems. As the car warmed up during the last leg of the 4 mile trip home, the steering got a little stiff, but no audible feedback.

During the trip to work this morning, I was also alarmed by a new harmonic overtone between 2200-3000 RPM. This was my PS pump, I think, because turning the wheel sharply would alter the overtone. Yes, I have sharp ears.

Anyway, regardless of the condition of the belt, it is being replaced soon along with the pump. The pump is 253k miles, and probably needs a rebuild anyway because of the leak.
