Noise from undercarriage 200 1988

Alright I'm looking for some help diagnosing this noise. It's coming from almost certainly the clutch, but could be the transmission. I have a five speed M47.
The sound appears when the rpm's are in the range to shift, disappear with my cluth engaged(which means little because if say I rev to 3k they disappear), and when I'm braking with my clutch I'll hear it also.
The sound is hard to explain, kind of like a baseball card in bicycle spokes, and maybe a hand-full of zip-ties being run across a chainlenth fence.
But the sound is apparent while shifting, although shifting seems to not be causing the noise.
Thanks in advance for any info.
