940 4 cyl Broken Timing Belt, Will valves bend? 900 1993

At 70 miles per hour while driving my 1993 940 my timing belt broke , 204K, Since I could not fix it myself right now , I had it towed to a repair shop. The mechanic said that after replacing the belt it had no compression, and that the valves were bent. . Can this happen with this engine? I don't trust this shop. Please reply with Help. Thanks, Joe
