If I remember correctly you start at one end and pull the bottom edge out which allows clearance to lift/pry the top edge off.

The curve in the trim creates a problem and it becomes deformed. I used a mallet to put it back in place.

I learned this during a repaint project. I would not remove it if I were to do a total repaint again. It makes more sense to simply tape it off.
