Ceramic pads versus Genuine Volvo, do ceramics eat rotors quicker than conventional 200

I need to order pads all around, and have noticed that the ceramics are close to the price of genuine Volvo pads. I have never used ceramics. My question is, will the ceramic pads wear the rotors out faster than the Volvo pads? Pad life better? I have seen some pads (lifetime, with lots of metal in them?) eat rotors up prematurely.
