Float Bowls leak / Fuel Pump question 120-130 1966

Hey all,

I'm wondering why my float bowls continue to leak. It's an issue I've been dealing with for some time now.

Car has SUs. Here's what I've done so far.

Took the float bowls apart, cleaned everything up.

Replaced the floats them selves (although the old ones seemed to work just the same.)

Adjusted the floats so that they should turn off the gas supply well before it reaches the vents.

Replaced the needle/valve inside the float lids. Tested them by turning the floats upside down and blowing through them, they didn't leak.

Replaced the gaskets between the float lids and the float bowls... twice now.

Replaced the fuel lines.

90% of the time the floats do not leak. The only time they do is when the car is under load at high RPM (Usually when going up a steep grade at highway speeds in 4th gear.) I smell gas inside the car, pull over and stop, and sure enough the top of my floats are covered in gas. They will not leak if I keep the engine RPMs high at a stop, only when the car is under load.

I'm left to think that the fuel pump is putting out too much pressure. Each time it happens my inline fuel filter (which is post pump) looks so full that it wants to burst. Usually under normal conditions the filter is about half way full.

Is there anything I'm over looking? What can I do to knock the pump pressure down if that is the problem?

Thanks as always.
