no 4th gear - od relay, solenoid or transmission? 200

brickers,

my beloved 240 (1990) has stopped shifting into 4th gear. First to third is fine, but 4th gear has vanished.

i've searched the archives and need to decide how to tackle this problem.

Can anyone tell me what order I should look.

From what I gather I should check:

OD Relay
Kickdown Cable
Solenoid

before I examine the transmission itself. Anyone else experience this?

The overdrive light turns on when I click the switch.
The idle also runs high and doesn't settle after I've driven on the highway and put it in park.

Can anyone help?
