'94 940 AC replace compressor? 900

At the end of last summer, I noticed a small puddle of
lumenescent green on the floor of the garage after the car had been partked
for two week -- and for a while last summer and fall I had various groans from the compressor. A recharge last August fixed things up through the
fall. But now I have no A/C.

Thinking back, that green puddle was directly under the A/C compressor.
Am I correct in assuming that I need to plan on replacing it?
I've never actaully done A/C work, but have just about everything else
mechanically. I've seen some posts from rludwick on the compressors,
but need any other available advice before tackling this one. I also have
an unknown 'rebuilt' pump that I bought for a song at a swap-meet some
years ago, should I try this on this car or save it for my '91 740?

(this dang long Chicago winter has been hard on the car this year,
not to mention me, the plants and everything else!)

Thanks for your help!
